From the 83 FSM, the pedal height off the floor to top of pedal should be 6.18" - 6.57". If not, loosen the stop light switch and adjust the push rod. When that adjustment is within limits, then check the free play. It should be .12" - .24". If not, with engine off, pump the pedal until there is no more vacuum left in the booster. Then push the pedal until there is slight resistance, take measurement and adjust if necessary. Then start the engine and check pedal free play is still there. From there, with engine running, push pedal as far as it will go, and check the pedal distance from the floor. It should be around 3.5". From there, it is kinda get a happy medium between the pedal height and free play,

Thanks Lons81, is there ever a need to unscrew the end of the push rod that goes behind the master cylinder to adjust it?

The rod that is between the booster and master cylinder, is a fixed length. I don't know if your truck had spacer block and gaskets between firewall and booster, make sure that is in. I put in an master cylinder from a 65 Mustang and not running a booster, will see how that works, heh. My hot rod friends suggested it .

Ok thanks , when i was taking the 1" bore mc off of a 95 4 runner i notice that one was adjustable, my booster is a dual diaphragm from a early turbo 22re so that it would fit in my 83 so i guess the rods are different, thanks.
