I have an '81 toyota with a stock aisin carb and it decided to have a fit this weekend. Now when you turn it on, it idles really high and after you let it warm up and hit the gas it will die off once it revs back down. I'm a complete newb to carbs and have no idea what it is. any input is greatly appreciated

 

Sounds like a clogged idle circuit. I had the same basic problem, ie: the motor won't idle. If your up to it buy a rebuild kit and do it yourself. I rebuilt mine and it has worked ever since.

 

ya rebuilding one is easy need a 12 mm wrench, 2 screwdrivers and a bottle of carb cleaner lol
