Ahhhhh engine craziness?

Old ass 22r actually broke on me and I'm trying to figure out what happened. So I was driving to a mountain biking trail (flame later on the biking OK?) and my accelerator got stuck. No idea what rpm she got up to but the sound stabilized by the time I got the accelerator unstuck.

Truck goes back to idle but I hear something that sounded loose as the revs dropped. Its a definite tapping sound and it seems to be near the top of the engine? Sounds like something is slapping the valve cover IMO.

So I was out in the middle of nowhere and I just limped it home. Engine sounds fine till 2.5k and then you will hear hear the sound again. Engine is definitely lacking power but there's no holes in the side or anything crazy....but I have NO idea as to what it might be.

Any wild guesses are appreciated lol.

spun bearing? check your oil from the oil pan for metal shavings.

Ok pulled the valve cover and everything looks okay except for when I rotate the engine by hand. There's two points I'm assuming 180 out from each other where the timing jumps. It makes a clicking sound. No idea on that. Gotta wait to drain the oil as it's still light out and it's against base regs to drain oil anywhere except the auto hobby shop.
