Can anyone tell me what this clip on the end of the accelerator cable is supposed to attach to? 1979 body with a 22R and Weber carb. It works ok as-is, but is difficult to get the correct tension and I'd rather not have it attached to the valve cover nut.
Follow-up question. Has anyone replaced this cable with a ATP-716? Toyota part 7818095117. It is 1/4" shorter with the threaded end adjustment. I have one of these brackets for the valve cover:
Looks like an aftermarket addition a previous owner added. I may well be mistaken, I'd have to check my pickup, but I don't recall seeing anything like that on it's valve cover. I seem to think the accelerator cable is free to move from where it comes out of the firewall, all the way to the carb. I may well be wrong, though. I believe I zip-tied it to the vacuum line going over to the brake booster, but that's about it.
I'll go out and look later on, see if I can get a pic or three.
Good luck!

The bracket in the last picture is the correct stock throttle cable bracket. Bolts in on the back, drivers side of valve cover. Hole in bracket should be over the back left valve cover nut.
I had (a long time ago) a weber and the stock bracket and cable worked fine or with very minor tweaking as I remember it.

Pretty certain this is the stock cable that came with the truck. Part number 78191A in the drawing below for trucks RN3# 1979.01 - 1980.03. Looks like there was more to it that connected to the factory carb? Mine came with the weber installed, so I never saw the factory setup.

Agreed. I think it will work if I swap out the cable for one with the threaded end with nuts to hook into that bracket. My current cable does not work with that bracket. Why it was on the truck? Who knows, one of the many mysteries with this thing.
I have an idea on that.
Your 79 came with a 20R. At some point they swapped to 22R and left the bracket on and hillbillied in the 79 bracket/cable.
Sounds like you're doing what they should have, get a 22R throttle cable and make it right.

22R cable is on order from Rock Auto. OEM cable has been discontinued, I'll report back with results.
