AC Question

My AC compressor does not have a belt on it. The compressor doesn't seem to be locked up, it will turn freely by hand. I wonder what the likelyhood of me putting a belt on it and the AC begin working would be? Mine's an 81. Anybody else had any luck with their still working?

There's only one way to find out, however it was prob removed for a reason.

Give it a shot. My A/C used to work a couple years back until it developed a leak and the freon escaped. One time i was changing the belts I decided to leave the A/C one off because it wasn't getting cold to begin with. Hopefully mine still works for next summer.

My initial thought was that the belt was off for a reason. However, with the gentleman who had this truck previously................you never know. The ac could have been working fine, but if the belt broke or started squealing, he would not have replaced it. I think a belt is about 9 dollars, so I'll give it a try. I know a new system wouldn't go for 30 years and still work, but hopefully this old one will.

My guess would be it was removed either for squeaks or leaks. Or both. I'd check to see if it has freon first.
