'83 square driveshaft?

I've done an extensive search on lengthening my front driveshaft using square stock. All the threads mention that you shouldn't turn a stock '83 or older driveshaft into a square driveshaft. I haven't read any specific reason why. Can anyone enlighten me?

Well, that helps. I guess I'll just do it and see if I can prove everyone wrong.

Square front driveshafts bring the suck IMO. Cost so little to do one right and be done with it. Got a buddy who built a front square one and he hates it. Makes all kind of racket and just doesn't work well.

Do it right, not for spite.

i don't see any reason why you can't. we all have selectable hubs so it won't be spinning when it isn't engaged, so it won't cause any problems.

a lot of full sized jeep guys use square shafts without problems. one even did a rear square shaft and has driven up to freeway speeds without any major vibration problems.

built it yesterday. Seems to work great. I'll need to really take it wheeling before it passes the test.
