so i just sold my 86 ifs pickup and bought my friends 83 flatbed straight axle. I got the truck knowing my friend put mass money in it and a family friend. he has not driven it for a while and didnt ever rly off road or beat on it at all. now since i got it been workin out a very few kinks here and there. Now my 2 main problems are motor mounts are broke and i ordered my lcengineering solid mounts, problem soon to be solved. Problem 2 is a big clunk noise in my front end when i turn left or right about 1/4 turn. Feels as if my steering arm of some sort is getting pressurized by something then falls in place. I am pretty new to the forums and cant wait to hit the trails. If anyone knows what can be done about this clunking noise or what it is please msg me or reply here. thanks.

Try jacking up the front end and have someone cycle the steering while you watch for anything that "clunks". If you don't see anything, I'd say take it in to a shop... or it's an excuse to upgrade to high steer.

 

Inspect your springs for worn bushings. Check your front bearings.
Inspect your TRE's (tie rod ends)

Toy SA's also use Birfields (like a U-Joint) in the front end that break if abused (big tires off road)
