I've not yet had the opportunity to get my dash apart to inspect things, but I've got a few dash lights that are not working. Hopefully it's just bulbs that are burnt out from the 20+ years of use, but I'm prepared for the worst..

Anyhow.. I noticed right above my HVAC controls on my '83 there is a hole in the metal dash that looks like a light might have mounted there. My question was; is that how Toyota illuminated the HVAC controls or were they backlit from bulbs behind?

 

yes it was a bulb ill try to find a pic of one and post for ya.

 

this was an 82-83 only, before that was a different light, much longer. this is on my 83 should be just like yours.

 

Darn it.. I'm not seeing that in my dash. I'm hoping it has fallen behind or something.. I'll know this evening.
