82 4x4 instrument cluster

Will the SR5 instrument cluster work correctly in a base model?

My knowledge (which is mostly faded) is from an 83, and I know they are different even though they look the same, but no is the answer. I have a thread on this forum describing how to do this in detail, but just recently all the photos went away. They may have been on photo bucket or something. Basically if you hook up the SR5 cluster, two things will work. Something like the right blinker and the brake light. You need to pull every other wire from the "base" location and stick it in the "SR5" location.

Glad it worked for you! Looking back at the thread I see it answers some of the questions you had, as far as where you start counting pin numbers etc.

I know where the tach wire goes in the gauge cluster but I don't where to hook into the coil. Do you know?

I think those photos are still in the thread. There are two plugs coming out of the coil. Looking at the photos, one has wires coming out of it, the other just has a rubber cover. I plugged my wire into the plug with the rubber cover an no other wires coming out.

I don't have a rubber plug on my coil but there is one black wire coming out that has a green connector on it covered by a rubber plug. Tried hooking that up and no dice. That is constantly energized with 12 volts when the ignition is on and the tach just slowly climbed. The pictures on your old thread are all gone. If you still have the truck can you post a new photo?

Thanks.
