'81 vs '84~'85 drive train

Are there any real differences in the drive train (front and rear axles, 3rds, brakes, etc.) between an '81 Toyota 4x4 truck and the '84's and '85's ?

The reason for asking is I'm going to look at an '81 4x4 truck this weekend with running a 22RE, tranny and xfer case out of an '85 4Runner.
I'm just wondering if there is any "weakness" in the axles, hubs, etc., between the '81's and '84's and '85's.
I've been looking at only '84's and '85's previously.

Thanks,
Fred

I'll be watching this thread too. My buddy just contacted me about selling his clean stock 81 4x4 longbed w/ A/C & 140k.

The transmission input shaft bearing is upgraded on '83 and later trucks.

The front axle house gets a gusset along the long side for strength.

81's have a 3.90 final drive (for EPA mileage rating), vs. other years' 4.10 ratio.

'84 - '88's have the ugliest dash known to mankind.

Ok..
The input shaft won't be an issue as this truck has a 22RE, tranny and xfer case from a '95.
The gusset's not a big deal for me. I won't gusset the front and possible rear axle tubes anyway.
Sounds like then, that the birfs, bearings, brakes, etc. are the same ?

Thanks,
Fred
