81 Longbed Build up (Slow)

85triz - Yeah all I used was a roller and rustoleum, I also thinned the paint with mineral spirits (probably unnecessary) . There are places were the lint from the roller got stuck in the paint, but that my have had to do with the fact that I wasn't really using good quality rollers. I only did one coat on the truck pretty much. Although I like how it turned out, if I was to do it again, I would probably spend the extra time to spray it.
Yota81- I understand that the black interior doesn't mean that it was any kind of special addition, but mine was like this before the previous owner repainted it. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f114...pickup-213759/

So I got around to working on the truck, did mostly interior work. Got a radio from an 04 Toyota Matrix and put in some 6x9 speakers in the door. Replaced the shifter boots with one from a third gen pickup. Put some reflexive sound deading stuff under the carpet and in the doors, now it is much quieter in the cab.

So recently put a new Weber 32/36 on my truck and it seemed to run fine down the road, but was getting pretty crappy gas mileage, and I did account for the bigger tires. So I checked the timing and of course it was off it was at about 12 btdc with no vacuum. But then I found that my vacuum advance wasn't working because the line was plugged. So I set it at 0 base timing then 12 btdc as per the FSM. Now it it has to be cranked for a good bit before it will finally start and will just barley run till you give it some good gas. I have been searching and some posts say to time the 22r base at 5 btdc. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong its driving me crazy. Any help would be appreciated. I don't know if it matters but when I messed up my last head I replaced it with one from an 84 Celica with 22re and used the cam too.

Is the engine a pre or post 84 22R. I'm assuming that since you used an 84 celica 22re head that it is the early style. the early and late style motors use different degrees of timeing, i just can't remember which gets which.

For that year its supposed to have 123hp and 181lbs of torque stock, its a 1983 300sd. It is a a turbo diesel. It was pretty quick imo even for such a big car when I put the skinny pedal down.

So nothing all that interesting, but picked up a w56 (at least I hope it is) with a newish clutch and flywheel and started to prep the block by taking off unnecessary stuff.
