5 spd on a 20r?

Hey guys, this is my first post around here...I've got an '80 pickup with a new 20r in her (Ill post a pic sometime this week), and my question is, can i get a 5spd to bolt up somehow to replace the stock 4 spd. I know that the 79-80 used the L43 tranny, and the 81-83 used the L45 which bolted to the 22r...would an L45 fit my 20r? is there another tranny maybe that would? Thanks in advance, this website kicks a$$ some of the trucks on here are ridiculously awesome, especially the 1st gen section!

A 5 spd should bolt up in place of the 4 spd, but you will need new drive shafts because the 5 spd is longer.

Lets see a picture when you get a chance.

L45 is still a 4 speed, just a top shift not a side shift like the L43.

what you want is an L52 5 speed which is the same length as the other L series transmissions. ALL L Series transmission are the same length, so you would not need to worry about moving the T/C mount back

Ok so I've been reading up on here a little more, and everyone says the W56 is a better choice than the L series. What do I need to do if i was going to look for one of these? Will it bolt right up like the L52 would?
