4spd woes...i need help

well first off i got a 1979 Longbed pickup 4x4 20R/4spd
i have been having problems with 1st gear..in the morning b4 it is warmed up to operating temp, when i pull out of my parking spot its fine, i drive to the end of the block, get the R's up, let the clutch out a bit, and she keeps popping out of 1st..and it takes forever to get it to stay there...i usually end up putting it in 2nd and going..and sometimes, when trying to get it into 1st it actually feels like i m picking up the tranny or moving it, just trying to find 1st...this morning just sitting there i tryed puttin it into gear and the only one i got it into was reverse...eventually i got it inot 1st to start moving but..this doesnt seem right at all..

so today after school i went to hop in, put the clutch down and there was nothing, it went to the floor...well then i tryed starting it, in gear, foot on clutch..and no start..clutch pedal did nothing....well i popped the hood and the cap for the master and ! there was no fluid....but where did it go? no spots on the ground...what the heck....well i got a ride home, got some fluid, filled it up, pumped it up and it was "normal" driving i suppose, but the pedal feels a little weak...

i got a deal on a 82 parts truck with a 5spd in it so i m gunna buy that, so i should have a new tranny within the next month or two...should i just grin and bear my problem till then? i never had a stick b4 this truck so i really dont know what to do with the popping out of gear and mysterious fluid disapperance...any help would be great! thanks in advance
