4cyl Diesel High RPM anyone???

Hi All. I have an LN46 4 Speed 82 Dual Cab Hilux I'm working on. I've spent about 3k since bringing back from the dead. (Sorry, no pics) It's now a daily driver. The truck revs really high when driving on the open road at 80-100kph. Sits on 3.5 RPM. 1st to 3rd gears get me to 60kph tops. Is this normal??? If not what can I do? Been trying to track down a five speed GB but no luck.....

Is your truck naturally aspirated, or do you have a turbo? For an L engine, I'd say you're about ballpark for an NA engine pulling ~40 MPH at 3500. With a four speed at 100kph I wouldn't be surprised to see it pulling alot of revs (my 22R in fourth sits at about 5000 at 60), it's a small engine doing a lot with tall gears.

I hate to say this, but by and large this forum seems to be mostly owners of USDM trucks with the 22R/RE. You may want to look into checking out the info from toyotadiesel.com, they specialize in oil burners.

By the way, sweet sounding truck! I've long daydreamed about landing a 3L, turbocharging it and swapping it into my rig!
