4" rough country springs- steering problem

hey dudes. just put in a set of used 4" rough country leafs in my 80 pickup. from a 82 pickup. everything works good except when i steer, the push pull rod hits the rear u bolt on that side of diff and doesn't go any further. is there a different steering arm i need or is the steering arm bent?? it did not have this problem on the 82 pickup. also with my factory springs it also rubbed on the u bolt too but wouldn't make the steering stop. i think the new 4" springs have one extra leaf in the pack that's why it is totally binding on the u bolt. would just get high steer but just not in the budjet right now.

k guys here's the best pics i could get. couldn't turn the wheel at all cuz it was frozen in ice. dang manitoba weather. all snow melts one week and now another 8". geeze! so hopefully someone has come across this before. someone even had to grind off the corner of the one u bolt to get it to clear. and that was with my stock springs. also u can see where the u bolt would go on the spring in the other pic. and notice the angle of the rod from the pitman to the steering arm. it should be more horizontal that this i think..???

Your pitman arm in not the problem. The "rod" from the pitman arm to the arm on the spindle is the problem. It's too late to go out and look at mine, but I know that that "rod" on mine is shaped like a streched out letter Z if that makes sense. I think the rod connects to the top of spindle arm on mine too. If no one else responds, I'll check it out for ya tomorrow.

You need a Drop drag link. All major lift brands sell them and its like 84rnr said it looks like a Z kinda.

It should look like the top one on this page.

i found a good write up on marlin crawlers forum about doing a ball flip. this is what is my problem. i'll have to get a drop drag link and do the ball flip. cuz with the ball on the bottom of j arm, it comes in contact with the u bolt. thanks for all the help tho guys. cheers!

just get the dropped draglink and never reuse ubolts. they stretch.
