22r valves

I have a lengthy post going on my rebuild. But I'm confused by how my valve job came out. More than one valve adjuster is so short on top you really can't get a lick nut on them. Before the shop most adjusters had the screw slits clearly visible. So something in the valve geometry has changed. Original intakes and 4 OEM exhaust valves that I picked up at my local dealer. Rocker pads are nice with no real wear. Some cam lobes look a bit burnt others are shiny and you can see where the rockers tracked off the lobes about 0.25.
Any help or pointers to check greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

Now I'm pretty sure I found the culprit. Worn cam.
FSM says intake lobe height min 1.6783-1.6819. None of mine meet the minimum.
Exhaust lobe height min. 1.6807-1.6842. My # 3 which had low compression Before the rebuild also had a burnt valve. It only measures 1.676. All the others are in between or under.

If you're replacing the cam it's best to replace rocker arms at the same time if you haven't already. http://www.lcengineering.com/LCTechP...ges/eng32.html. At least that is what LC Engineering says to do.

The cam I picked after much consideration is a Redline Engineering.com cam. This is the company that supplied ENGINBUILDERS for years. Since the owner of engine builders has closed up shop and retired he added a link to Redline cams. On sale right now for 125+25 shipping. I have chosen the 268. He grinds all of his cams from new blanks. No junk. And everyone has always had good reviews of the engine builders stuff I figured I can't go wrong. This cam has less advance than the 261 cam. I think it was 8 degrees where the 261 was 20.

Good find on the cam! Thats a great price. Ill probly do the same thing next time i open my engine up. I was tired of seeing 10 yr old posts recomending engnbldrs cams but now I know not to give up hope.

I second getting new rockers if you got the $.
Old rockers can put irregular wear on your cam lobes.

As strange as it sounds my rockers are OK. I'm going to double check each pad and polish if needed. About all of my adjuster screws were shot and I have replaced all of them. Some were mushroomed so bad they had to come out the bottom. I tried to add a link to Redline web site but no luck. Very informative owner to talk to. I know what you mean. I kept seeing all of these great posts about engine builders cams that I wanted one. Then I did notice that they did a small write up about Redline with a link. They are in Oregon.

On the 261 cam 20 degrees sounds like a lot of advance ground in, whereas muscle car cams are typically around 0-4*. The advance moves the powerband lower in rpms at the cost of top end power. Good for daily driving. The 268 cam should give you more power across a wider rpm range and higher peak power. let us know your impressions when you get it going again.
