This seems a little far from what this post is actually about, and this is the area for PRE 84 Pickups. but yes the 6 will fit in your truck, you can pretty much make anything fit if you are good enough. Although in your case it will obviously take some modification and know how to get it done correctly.

5 head gaskets in 75,000 miles and you are the original owner?! That seems a bit insane if you ask me, i've never heard of somebody replacing that many in such a short time period on a new-ish truck. Something must be wrong, or you are driving it to hell and back everyday relentlessly.

There's something very wrong with your engine. I forget what would make headgaskets go like that...but somebody messed something up along the way.

And yes, START YOUR OWN THREAD! Don't hijack someone else's.

It's the V6 pickups from your year range that were notorious for blowing headgaskets. If you're thinking of a later V6, that would be cool, though.

I believe a lot of them had beefier transmissions and differentials, though, than the 4 cylinders...

 

Same transmissions, same drive train (definitely for 1st and 2nd gen). Da beauty of Toyota. 22R and 3VZ (and L series) are essentially interchangeable at the bell housing. Clutch might be different, but I don't know about engine mounts or engine peripherals. I think the frame side of engine mounts are the same. As long as you bring along the mounts with the engine...should work.

Do you see anything about whether it's a 22R or a 3VZ on first or second gen? No...must be same transmission and drive train for 22R and 3VZ.
