Anyone know what the specification for oil pressure on an early 22r is? I just installed a pre-84 22r from a 2wd pickup into my 1984 4runner, and it seems my idiot oil pressure gauge registers very low. I wouldlike to get a mechanical gauge and double check before I daily drive this vehicle.

i found this on lc engineering web site the other day a minumum of 10psi of oil pressure for every 1000 RPM to ensure proper oil distribution among vital engine components
but both my 22re motors idel at around 5-6 psi and my 2rz runs at 10 at idel

I wonder if anybody has a conversion chart to explain what my 1980 oe oil pressure gauge is trying to tell me what 2-6 kg/cm2 means.

So, according to this conversion, if my stock gauge is accurate, my 22R idles at about 40psi (2 kg/cm2), and gets as high as 80psi when cold.
The acceptable range according to this 1980 gauge is 2-4 kg/cm2, or 28-56 psi. These sound like typical V8 specs.

Just to rule out any errors on the part of the conversion calculator, I tried this one too and got the same results:

I do not want to just add to conjecture. Frequently though the oil pressure specification will be in a shop manual somewhere - it's cold and snowing where I am and my manual is in the truck or I'd look it up right now for you. 10 PSI per 1000 RPM is a good rule of thumb. Many vehicles this will drop drastically at idle. I would first say to make sure you have a quality oil pressure switch installed, but you probably shouldn't be seeing the oil light at idle even at that. Then I would go for checking things out - making sure you have the correct oil filter, make sure you are using quality 10w30 motor oil, etc etc. Checking the oil level on a properly level surface can go a long way too.

As far as "following" your dummy light, I find that my 1980 light stays on for about 3 full seconds at cold startup before going out. It's pretty normal for below 30 degree weather.
