20r get'n hot need help !!!!!

O.K. need'n some help.

Have me a beat'r 1980 2wd yota pick-up.

Love this little beater !!

I've drove it about a year now and temp guage always runs a little over half.

About a month ago she started run'n in the RED !!

Pulled thermo stat thinking it was stuck, could not see much circulation in RAD.

Drove 5 miles still got hot.

Checked Rad for Circulation, has real gooooood circulation, pump is good I think !?!?!?!?!

Put thermo stat back in, still has good circulation !!!!

Noticed clutch fan not kicking in, put new on, kicks in good but still gets HOT !!

Next I thought temp guage messing up. Pulled wire from block (Engine was Hot) and guage bottomed to cold. Plugged back in went back to hot (engine was Hot, did I already say that) I think guage is working !!!

My next step I think is to check RAD to see if it is full of dead bugs or whatever blocking air flow. I am going to pull and power wash RAD being carful not to damage.

I have a feeling this is not going to help, I hope it does, but have a feeling it will not.

What should I also be checking ????

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think your on the right track ... chances are it's the rad ... unless someone has "dumped" some stop leak in to the cooling system ..
go to er' with the power wash . I might also suggest "flushing" the whole system with a "hose T " and replacing the coolant .

I do believe I got her whipped !!

It was the thermostat !!!

Thing was stuck open, letting it flow through to fast I guess.

Put a genuine toyota thermostat in instead of a "parts" store one. 10 times the quality when looking @ them side by side !!!!

Yes always use a Toyota thermostat. Glad you got it figured out!
