Unhappy 20r gearing/tire performance questions

Hi all new to this board with gearing?'s
The rig: 1980 mini:5 inch lift,stock junkyard 20r (148K?),5spd, 33x12.50 Avenger muddys on 15x10 wheels: stock gears?

I am gonna change to 15x8 rims and would like to keep the 33's: but its a dog on the highway...I gear down for hills etc running 50 mph. Would changing to the 8" wide rim make any noticable difference on the highway? Should I change the width of the tire or just bite the bullet and get 4.88 gears? Would a header or weber allow me to do a steady 65 mph without going to 4.88's.I would like to stay away from the gears to spend $ elsewhere..body work etc. Sorry for the long post

Thanks,

Ryan

probably won't make that big of a difference. gears will really help, though.

usually adding a 5 speed in solves a lot of issues, since the factory 4 speed those years had a 3.67 first gear compared to 3.93 like all others. the factory diff gears are 4.38s in '79 and 80, 4.88s would definitely be a big help.
