1st start remanufactured 22r

Finished install today. Motor will start up but run rough and not idle up. No leaks on intake/carb. Motor is desmogged, only running vaccum advance and power brake lines. Timing is set @ 5 degrees w/vaccum lines plugged. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If your desmogged are you running a weber?? Might check all your spark plugs are on the correct firing order. I can't remember off hand but I think it's 1342??

I believe the timing should be set to 0 for a 22R. I think a 22RE's timing is set to 5. I'd have to check. Hope this helps...

did you remember to put the little flat bolt at the top rear of the valve cover back in, to hold the throttle cable tight lol, i had to slide mine all the way over to get the right tension after my 20 to 22r swap. did you set the carb to base line settings to start? Reset tdc and restab dizzy.
could your valve lash be out of spec enough to cause it to barely run? any mods besides ditching the egr baloney?

Timing is right - should be 5* BTDC at 700-950 RPM with the advance pinched.

Sounds to me like you could have a carb issue. Start with baseline settings and go from there. Also make sure you don't have the timing 360* out - If it is then it would be backfiring through the intake. To fix this, remove the distributor at TDC, turn the crank one full turn and restab the distributor.

Another issue could be elevation; what elevation are you working at?
