1st gen high steer

ok so I am getting ready to put high steer on my 83 and I am trying to figure out how/where and what angle to mount the IFS box I have seen many different ways but which one is the easiest/most effective?

-Im planning on about 4" of lift! (trail-gear 3" front springs/shackle/drop hanger)
-the axle will go forward about 1-1.5"!

-so what is the best way to mount it? (this is me DD/wheeler)
-what pit-man arm do I need drop or flat?
-how far forward?

!!!pics would help out a lot please!!!

I did Hi-Steer on my '83 and I used the drop Pitman arm. Make sure the IFS box is as far forward as possible, you may have to bend the body panel a little. I actually used one of the stock steering box bolts in the stock hole to mount my IFS box.

Theres how mines mounted,(it wasnt quite finished in the pic) As you can see I had to cut the inner fender. It works fine like that, I pretty much put it on an angle so the steering shaft was pointing strait to the shaft on the box, Next time I want to mount it higher up, less of an angle and slightly farther forward, its as far forward as I could without cutting the rad support. If I mounted it any higher the pitman would hit the frame right near the splines on the steering box because the TG drop pitman is so thick.

i would mount your springs and hi-steer first. then you can be sure to get the correct geometry, and to fit your drag link as parallel to the tie rod as possible.

Could I ask a quick manual steering question in your thread 4x4yota...

what causes a "swishing" sound in my manual non power steering when I turn the wheel? is that normal? sounds like something that needs lube?

yes, good advice. especially since you won't have clearance for the tie rods until the springs are mounted anyway.

I screwed up when I did mine ...it's one of the things getting fixed...

use a 3/4" hole saw instead of a 3/4" drill bit, it will be faster...
