Anybody else ever notice the Today Show's banner?......Coincidence?.....I think not!.....

 

Well.....maybe a bit of a stretch ....but reminds me of it every morning....

 

I've been seeing a blue and white 1st gen around town lately that has those stripes, it makes me jealous.

 

Nothing wrong with a little disco...doesn't get any better....

 

Were they all supposed to have those? Mine is just solid red.

 

The stripes were part of an optional tu-tone paint package that was available for SR5 level trucks I believe. There were AFAIK two versions white over red as in the pic and the white over dark blue with two lighter blue stripes as warmonger mentioned.

 

79-83 4x4 trucks had several different decal/stripe packages for the SR5 truck. The decals were different on the early 79-80 4x4 trucks. Hockey stick style running down the door/hood of the trunk. I've seen that in a silver tri-tone look.

The 81-83 4x4 trucks had the tri-tone stripes running along the bed, front quarter and hood of the truck.. Those came in silver, brown and blue, my truck is an example of that style...
And the two-tone trucks which is in the photo, beautiful btw.. They had three options, deviating white/red, white/medium blue and white/beige. Those are just the 4x4s, 2x4s were different.. There were a lot of after-market decals as well.

 

I actually ran across an early 80s 2wd at the junkyard this morning that was solid red with black hockey sticks down the sides and black striping on the hood with the sr5 logo in the stripes. It was pretty cool, but unfortunate that every body panel was destroyed.
