I need to replace the fuel tank on my 1983 4x4 shortbed pickup. The fuel tank is NLA for the '83.
However, several aftermarket manufacturers make a fuel tank for a 1984 model. The tank looks very similar in photos. Does anyone know if this tank will fit my 1983?
Here are a few pictures of a 1983 fuel tank. You can see that the fuel inlet and outlet flange is on the driver's side of the tank and at an angle.
And here is 1984 fuel tank. The fuel inlet and outlet flange is on the passenger's side of the tank and is on a flat portion of the tank.
Do you think these are interchangeable? Will it at least bolt into the truck frame? I can always adjust the fuel lines. The flanges for the inlet/outlet and fuel-level sender appear to the the same dimensions.
find out what the dimensions are.
if they are the same what would keep you from turning the 84 tank 180 degrees so the fill is on the d/s?
it's not gonna be a direct swap but who knows
from legacynorthwest he cleaned his tank with a pressure washer & metal bb's, replaced the float, and flushed the lines. he also noted that the short bed and long bed tanks were interchangeable although it was for a 79'. you might be able to just clean your old one instead of trying to track down a new one.
