1983 pickup exhaust

Hey guys, I need to replace the exhaust on my 83 22R pickup so I wanna know what size of pipe would be good for it. I don't wanna use the same setup it has now though which is stock

I used 2 1/2" pipe during my replacement. I think the overall consensus is that it is the best for the 22R/RE engines

Engnbldr has lots of experience racing 22r/re engines and they don't see a benefit in pipes larger than 2 1/4". Not saying 2 1/2" is a bad choice, but it doesn't seem to be the consensus, either.

You can also check out a chart used to determine pipe diameter on custom setups and see that 2.5" pipe is recommended for 3.3-4.5 litre engines that make between 200-250 horsepower!

Is it possible and fairly cheap to do a dual exhaust?

It's your truck so do what you want.

You wouldn't be the first person to build a monster exhaust onto a tiny little engine with small power output. What'll likely happen is you end up with less power than you started out with.

I've got a pretty hot 22R and I'm running 2 1/4" exhaust. That would be my recommendation.
Like stated above though, it's your truck, do as you please. Just please don't run a stack up through the bed. It just looks stupid.

no lol, I'm not that inexperienced.

All I'm really looking for is something that'll sound nice going down the road and will give me better performance than what I have now

Quiet muffler

newb here, forgive my ignorance. Can someone recommend a quiet muffler for a 20r? I'm old, what can I say! Btw, I think YT is paradise found. Thanks.

I don't know if you bought one already but the 87510cb cherry bomb sounds really quiet and nice.

I'm running an LCE header and the rest of the system is 2 1/4" from front to rear.

I think I may give the cherry bomb a whirl. The muffler on it at this time has resonance/ harmonics that are hard on my ears. Just can’t get used to it. Thanks for your help.

Nice looking truck in your avatar. Any other pics and story about it?
I just finished the exhaust on my 82 bringing it from the muffler and exiting out under the rear bumper.
my muffler was 1 7/8 outlet so that's what I used. That is plenty for this application.
