If it is, my first tip is to GET A WEBER.
Easier to tune than the crap stock carb.
And is like night and day difference while driving.

Definitely do that. The factory carbs are worth absolutely nothing. Gives you loads of power too. I can cruise at 65 no problem with my '79.

The factory carbs are GREAT. Once tuned, they stay tuned. Webers take more tuning at regular intervals, and don't work at extreme angles (may not matter to you).

Anyway, I won't disagree that Webers are great, but the stock carb is far from crap, and is arguably better than anything you'll ever find aftermarket.

I can't argue with you. But, I think the Webers are a lot better in most aspects, and would much rather have to tune it regularly than have all the smog and power robbing stuff on the factory carb, plus the fact that when I DO need to tune it's a complete pain in the a**. I also love to feel in tune with my engine, so I actually enjoy the little tuning jobs. I'm also sure that there are better option out there, and the Webers are a little over used in a sense. I do think Holley makes some good carbs...Keep us updated on what you do! I might be looking into a Weber 38 soon, or a different aftermarket carb. You might be my guinea pig!

Well I'm not new to offroad but am just getting into yota's I have owned a few jeeps then bought my truck a year ago and am slowly selling the jeeps off only have a cj7 left. But I did the webber swap on it because the stock carb was crap. I have had the cj almost pointing at the sky and it was still running. I do think its a 38 I put in it whole new engine afterwards. Didnt want to but most likely going to do a webber swap on the yota so I don't have future issues with it again will keep you guys updated on how it goes gonna wait for tax returns to do it should only be acouple weeks

Webers do seem easier for people to understand, when issues do come up. When stock carbs are working correctly, nothing beats them.

But they're a lot more complicated to work on, that's for sure.

I have an 83 stock carb and once i got it dialed in I love it. I'm also in cali though and if it werent for smog I would run a weber. But check your float level i had a lot of issues with that on mine.

if you don't want to buy a weber then i would add a fuel pressure regulator to make sure you aren't getting too much pressure.
