1982 Pickup L50/52 to W series Transmission ???s

aloha YT,

I know everyone has done or is doing a L series 5speed to W series 5speed transmission swap in their 79-82 Pickups, basically because my L series sucks, not so smooth and getting vibration in 5th gear...I also figure rebuilding a L series is pointless due to weakness!...couple questions

1. Do any other the driveshafts need to be modified? Shorten or Length on the front or back shaft?
2. Same clutch as the L series?
3. Modification in the cab (shift positions/cut the tunnel)?

MAHALO: any info will help or links to builds!!!

Longer front drive shaft, shorten the rear. Move the cross member back 4"
There are a couple of threads on doing this in this section, I would find them for you but am heading out for new years

Along with the info already provided, I'll add that the newer transfer cases that are attatched to the C/D/E W56 models are taller, and it will require clearancing of the 1st Gen Truck cab. Minor work, but it will rub, and it IS annoying.
