1982 22r BREATHER on valve cover necessary?

I have an operating and functional PCV valve routed directly into the intake manifold. The breather port towards the front of the valve cover is blocked off with a little rubber cap. Should I have a breather on there? I"m not looking to get rid of the PCV, I'm just talking about the other hold in the valve cover.
I'm reading conflicting information on if it should stay capped or whether I should put a breather on there.
What are the pros/cons? It's been on there since I've had the it so I don't know what a breather will help/hurt, etc.
Thank you.

You should have a breather filter on it.

ENIGMA, yes, that is the other option. As it stands, I have neither so I'll just order the K&N breather and use it. I hope I didn't damage anything running without it.
Thank you both.

I think the only risk would be making an oily mess on your valve cover or getting some dirt into your oil.

ENIGMA, mine is capped off now and has been for a while. I"m wondering if running it capped off could have caused some problems. I had 2 oil leaks. My oil pan gasket was out of position in one spot (possibly caused by this problem) which I just fixed 2 weeks ago. The other leak I haven't been able to isolate yet. Maybe the increased crankcase pressure caused them. It would be great if adding the breather corrects the existing leak. I'm not holding my breath.
