Hey guys,
Dug around but couldn't find an answer to a hopefully a simple request. I just need to see what the wiring running to the A/C compressor consists of. Basically, what wire activates the compressor. Working with a Trekker so it did have air conditioning originally. I have also done a Weber conversion if that affects things. Thanks in advance!
Hi, Corey, good to hear from you! Yeah, I'd appreciate the help. I would think someone who has A/C could just take a quick look or snap a picture... The wire ON the compressor is black, but not sure which wire leads to it. There is a green wire with a plug that seems to have constant 12V power regardless of what I do with the A/C switch. This green wire shares a taped harness with a yellow / green wire that is for the temperature sender. Maybe that's it and I'm just not clear on how the circuit works? Thanks for the help and hope you're well!
Really appreciate you sending this off, Corey! I spent several hours probing around and still can't figure this out, though. Several black / white wires exist but none of them seem to have any voltage effect when I activate the A/C switch. Wondering if I just don't understand how this circuit works (well, that's obvious!)? I'm going to start back at the A/C amplifier and see where that takes me. Thought there would be someone out there with a first gen w/ A/C that could easily show me the wire routing in the engine compartment... Fingers crossed on that still! Thank you again.
Thanks so much, man! Really appreciate it. Ironically, it looks like the '81 truck doesn't have its electrical connection hooked up either, so I'm still a bit lost on what it plugs into... Any chance your buddy can point out the corresponding wire on that truck? Thanks again!
its that "orange" plug .. single black and white wire , I dont believe the compressor is factory , as the plug should be green
and your right , dosnt looked like its plugged in ?

Maybe this will help: there is a connector in the engine bay behind the battery (this is on a 79, I think should be the same for all 79-83). The wires from this connector power the ac compressor and the vsv for the idle-up function. See photos below. connector wiring diagram
Boom! Scottd - thanks so much! That got me in the right direction and I went digging through my "removed parts" box. Seems like I never throw away anything and found the pigtail that went to the carb / emission loop when I swapped to a Weber. Removed the unnecessary wires and we're back in business. Now just need to get it charged... Really appreciate the help, guys!
