1981 Toyota pickup charge problem

If there is anyone out there that might can help I will greatly appreciate it. I’m new to the old Toyota’s . I have a 1981 Toyota pickup 4x4 22r 5 speed. I was testing wires trying to find the temp gauge wire due to over the year the harness has been hacked up. Although I didn’t find it idk if I crossed something or messed something up.But the charge light is on the engine has reved up. The charge off alternator is 12.4 v at the battery it’s the same I disconnect battery cable and truck dies. The truck was running great before I messed with it. I found a thread that a guy found a bad fusible link in harness but I’m not seeing it or feeling it. Idk where or what to look at idk if I messed up the alternator or the voltage regulator or the relay. But I can’t figure out what I need to do or check. Or where to start rolling stuff out. Any info or help would be apreciated
