1980 windshield wiper issue
Ok I'm trying to figure out why my wipers aren't working. Checked the fuse first off and it's fine, went around and checked voltage at the motor and I can only get 4 volts at any one pin. New to wiring so this is kind of throwing me for a loop. Any ideas what could be causing this, my janky Haynes wiring diagram isn't helping me too much. Thanks.

I'd say if theres any connectors between the fuse, motor and switch clean them plus any ground. If theres only 4 wires to the motor then I believe the motor is grounded through its mounting that might be corroded or a loose bolt. I think if you check all connections and your still getting 4 volts it might be a defective wiper switch? Electrical is always a pain. if its an intermitant type might be a problem with the relay but not sure what it relays
? looking at the diagram it is a bit confusing. Lots of times its a bad ground that causes problems on vehicels.

Ok I guess I was doing something ass backwards when checking voltage at the motor the other day this is what I'm getting at the different wires going into the motor at each switch setting.
Off- 11v at blue, 9v at blue/black
Int- 1v at blue
Lo- 11v at blue, 11v blue/black, 10v at blue/white
Hi- 11v at blue, 11v at blue/orange, 9v at blue/white
I decided to pull the motor and sent twelve volts to it with a battery charger and it turned no problem so I know it's not locked up. The one volt on intermittent is really throwing me off, if the relay is bad can that cause the whole thing to take a dump or would it just affect the intermittent setting? I did get a hold of a pdf copy of a fsm and here's the wiper part from the electrical diagrams.

2 pics. ONCE PIC IS UP CLICK IT AGAIN TO SUPER SIZE (FROM SERVICE MANUAL)
TROUBLE SHOOTING SAID CHECK;
WIRING OR GROUND FAULTY
FUSE AND CHECK FOR SHORT
WIPER CONTROL SWITCH
MOTOR
I DONT KNOW? BUT SEEMS LIKE IF YOU'RE SEEING LESS THAN 12VOLTS ON MOST CONNECTIONS INSTEAD OF 12V MIGHT BE A BAD GROUND CONNECTION SOMEWHERE?
