12K? Wow, ...that's a chunk! I have seen people pay crazy prices for these in great condition. Not sure on the miles being authentic, etc., ..... and if you can get that thing 'certified historic' or whatever will help you maintain whatever you invested(I am curious, if you're talkin, lol)... Then by all means, ..it's YOUR MONEY! It's a beautiful rig, a Alchaar... Enjoy it! I could never pay that kind of money... I'd rather buy one with 100K and no rust and restore it myself... BUT, I would never begrudge anyone spending their hard earned cabbage how ever they want, ya know?

I saw this one... and thought, WOW, 19K$???? But considering it's a 69 FJ55 w/B&B V8/Tricked Trans/4wheel steering/rock crawling beast... and SO CLEAN, ... I'd say it's GOTTA be worth it to someone. I honestly would LOVE to own it.. Just couldn't justify 19K$ .....nor afford it, if I'm being totally honest! hahaha... OH, yeah,....here's what I'm talking about, hahaha.....>>>

Lol, i think if you want to restore a truck of this vintage to the condition of this one, you will fork over more than 12k between the truck, parts, and labor. Not only that, you won't get it original, you'd have bondo in places....it's just not the same. But i have to admit, it would be fun. I am actually workin on a diesel conversion for my 91 sr5 ex cab 22re manual. I know it is very fulfilling to do it yourself, but this 1980 is an exception.

Oh, I hear ya... But actually, here in L.A..... I know of 3, right now(THEY WILL NOT PART WITH THEM WITHOUT A 357 BEING PRIED FROM THEIR COLD, DEAD HANDS, HAHAHA).... They're ALL clean as hell without any body damage... hardly ANY rust, anywhere... and One has been painted, but cherry. One aside from those sold for 8500$ 68K Original Miles.... IMMACULATE! Has a lot to do with TIMING, man.... I see them all the time on CL, too.. but they LAST 10 MINUTES! haha.

LOVE to grab this one....

Not bad.... but even that is a LIL pricey for L.A. But hey, there's these guys, too>>>

To SOMEONE, ... it's worth every penny!

Right around 12K$... This, as well, would be a place to 'start' for someone.. "REDY2GO" Category.... DEFINITELY not stock, hahaha>>>

Regardless of the original miles and turn odometer issue, I would give every bit of $5K for that truck! You certainly came to the right place, the folks on here mean no harm, but they are the foremost in Toyota knowledge and will pick up on things that the average Joe would otherwise not. Bottomline is that even if it does have a once or twice turned odometers, 20R and 22R motors can be rebuilt relatively easy and cheap. And leaky drivetrains are an easy fix too. What isn't easy isn't easy is bodywork. These Toyotas are known to be rust buckets. Try finding a nice original bed for these things (especially a shortbed), it's nearly impossible unless you go to ToyotaFiberglass. Trust me, I've been on the market for a new bed for months now. I haven't put a magnet on this truck, but I'd be willing to bet that there isn't a whole lot of bodyfiller and looks to be original metal. Also, you can't find original interiors looking like that very easily. My truck is in pretty decent shape for being used like a truck for the past 30 years, but nowhere near this condition.

Again, $5K is where I would start. Where is the truck located?

so many opinions on a truck its hard to judge by pics but i watched one in the same condition go for 7k on ebay only difference was the color tan as for the rust it only takes a few good times of letting it run on a salted road and let it sit and it will rust away slowly! any yankee would know that lol not downing anyone just didnt feel like listing each salt road state lol. moral of the story is wash your truck often its getting hard to find them without rust lol

Of course... some of them were coated... Which we did to prevent OIL leakin through/easy clean ups. Even painted one with Freeway Paint. Hmmm.
In northern climates, the sudden temp change in spring and fall creates condensation, therefore exposed metal will rust. People who store cars on concrete will put tarps or plastic under the car.

I have read the previous posts about First generation Toyota trucks rusting and just remember Chevrolet, Ford, Chrysler products, etc trucks and cars rusted just as bad and sometimes worse then our trucks. The only way to preserve a car or truck is to take care of it properly and store it in an envrionmentally controlled garage; that means temperature and humidity (Moisture) is controlled. I have had my 1983 Toyota truck since new and it has never had any rust of any kind anywhere but it has always been taken care of and stored in an environmentally controlled garage both in Florida and Pennsylvania. There are products on the market that can help prevent rust and if you are re-doing your truck look into some of new types of paints and powder coatings that are available. My all steel 1932 Ford 3W Coupe and my 1950 Mercury custom (no Bondo just lead) have no rust anywhere either.

Ahhh, ... thanks, "Etc.". Makes sense. My neighbor in Spokane laid Freeway Paint down in his garage and driveway. PRICEY, but he swore it was helpful. That stuff was insane... you could hit it with a hammer and not chip it! haha. This co. in L.A., who makes Freeway Paint(white and yellow reflective type.... ) .. They make other colors and sell privately... My dad used it as well for the inside of his garage in Redondo Beach, CA. One time, I left the oil plug out when I was around 16,.... and I SURE WAS GRATEFUL that paint was there when I saw the POOL floating on top of it! hahaha.
