1980 shortbox 4x4 22ret?
recently bought a 1980 shortbox 4x4..drove it home stock 20r rattles a bit...pulled it out for a rebuild and today i end up buying an 86 pickup with a good running 22ret! was wondering what it would take to get the 22ret into my 80..any tips etc. would be welcome,..

it's basically a "bolt up" replacement ..
you'll need the wire harness and computer from the /86 .. and you'll need the motor mounts from the /80 ..
those pieces will make it a "bolt in" unit ..
with a little wiring finess .. (7 wires I believe ) you'll have a working unit

gorgeous truck man.. get that turbo motor running and post a video.. also, when you do get it going make sure you put a turbo timer on it or let it run for a few minutes after wheeling it. I have seen more then a couple turbos give the ghost from not having sufficient cool down..

I ran 33x12.50's with stock axles without any problems. Wheeled it hard in Moab with no breakage. Have 37x13.50's with stock axles now and haven't had problems (yet). Did several hard trails in Moab and nothing broke.

lol.. in all the turbocharged track vehicles I've every owned, only 1 had a turbo timer.. and I never used it.. I just let the car cool down 5 minutes prior to shut off.
Just don't boost sliding into the garage and you'll be fine.
