No you'd still get spark. It just wouldn't be sparking on the right stroke.

It's really tough figuring out what people have messed with in the past...I feel for you.

Ok, I haven't had a chance to check it yet. I did however pick up my multimeter this morning and i also found my Haynes manual I had from my old 4runner, it covers back to a 79 pickup. So hopefully I can get to the bottom of this. Found some cheap ignition parts online, pickup coil, plug wires, cap, rotor and ignition coil all for 38$ shipped. Gonna do some texting then bite the bullet depending on results. For now though the misses wants to get out and enjoy the weather some, I just want to tinker..

Thanks for all the help thus far 83

Ok update:

Put a multimeter to it.

Off of the ignition control modules two leads it reads 9.42.
Off of the +/- posts on the ignition coil it reads 0.
And off of the center spark post on the coil it reads 10.82.
Off of the pickup coil, probing the backside of the harness coming off the module it reads 0.

Is it possible the module failed on just one side? Or is this a coil issue? As the posts on the coil aren't reading, but the center spark hole is. And the two leads off of the module are reading, but the harness off of to the pickup coil it isn't.

Not sure...one thing I will say, replace everything else before the module! That little thing is expensive. It went out on my 83. Unless you find a way to know for sure that it's what's causing issues.

Might just have to wait till your parts come in and see what happens.

The dreaded wait... Ive got a buddy i met back when I had a 87 van/hiace he works as a toyota technician on the forklifts which share the same engine as the vans, 3yec. He's also an avid toyota enthusiast. He thinks it could be a coil issue, but isn't ruling out the module. He suggested doing the HEI swap.. Some of the stuff I've read on it seems promising, some doesn't.. Guess I'm going to have to flip a coin and make a purchase.
