I am not familiar with the 22r or the pre-90 yotas. He states there could be an axle issue or knocking under the floor borads. Anybody have thoughts on what might be source of the knock? I might go take a look at this but would like to know what to look for.

78- that's a 20R. Hard to tell if it is suspension/driveshaft related sight unseen. Are you close enough to drive it?

If it looks pretty clean thats not a bad buy, if the engine runs strong and doesn't have a million miles on it with nothing ever done to it. Just don't expect to win any races in that thing

 

Interesting, it would normally be a 20R, but the ad says 22R, but also says 2.2L, so I bet it is a 20R and the person doen't know what engine he has. Also, the milage is never mentioned. But, I personally think $1000 is a really good deal for any camper, let alone one with a toyota attached.

 

I noticed he said it might be the "axle again," meaning that it made a similar noise before he had it rebuilt. Campers built on Toyota frames were frequently overloaded from the RV manfacturer and would snap axleshafts. There was a recall, I think in the early '90s, that put Toyota full floating axles on lots of these motorhomes. Not all of them got the full floater, so it could easily be something on the axle starting to go out. Any Toyota motorhome should have a full floater installed for safety reasons. This makes the $1000 motorhome not as good of a deal, but it is worth looking at.

Most of the older motorhomes I have come across have water leaks, dry rot, and mouse infestations at some time. Check the corners and around the vents for water damage and dry rot. If it is still structurely solid, then the leaks can be patched.
