Want to buy back my old 4Runner

Hello Yotatech!

I'm not sure who is now in possession of my beloved yellow 1986 Toyota 4Runner but I would LOVE to buy it back. I lost all the info of the gentleman that I sold it to but if someone could point me in the right direction I would be forever grateful.

Thank you!

If you still have the vin maybe you know a police officer who can run it for you. If you don't have the vin look on old work receipts or check with your insurance company. In the mean time try a google of the vin. If it's for sale somewhere it might show up. I hope you find it. It'll be interesting to see what you do with it.

Carfax or a local private title company

Your old insurance cards or company, especially if you are with the same company, should have your VIN. With the VIN, you can find out where it's at on Carfax. All states are different, but here, in TX, you can go to a private title company and they can do some research for you for a fee. I'm not sure if they can disclose the current owner.
However, if you know what city it is in, it should not be as hard to track down.

I found my 4runner on here, by accident, 10 years after I sold it. We confirmed that it was mine by digging out an old insurance card with the VIN.

Good luck

If you go on Toyotas website, they have this thing called "customer care" or whatever, but basically if you register on there, with a vin number, it shows all the records if the truck ever went to the dealership for repairs, also the location of where that dealership is.

Also, if it's been a while since you sold it, CarFax will say when the ownership of the truck was changed and sometimes gives the general location of where it took place.

If that helps narrow it down any.

Red face

Who did the Notary Work??

They should still have records if you transfered the title.

Do you really think you can buy it back?? At a reasonable price??

Good idea. Notaries keep a log book of all the signatures/addresses of the people they notarize. Do you seriously have to have car titles notarized in PA? In VA we do not. What a PITA.

I'm so interested in this 'cause I saved the registration/vins from a bunch of my old cars. The guy who bought my mint condition (appearance) '73 MG Midget can keep that one though.

I'm still a fan of the befriending a police officer and see if he/she can use their computer system to find the car... While probably not technically legal, neither is half of the crap they do anyway...
