I'm planning on doing my 5sp swap this weekend and just need to find a place that rents transmission jacks. Anyone know of a place in the Denver/Boulder area?

Places I've tried:
Napa - doesn't rent them
Autozone - doesn't rent them
Checker - doesn't rent them
Pep Boys - doesn't rent them
United Rental - Rents them for $40/day

$40/day is way too steep for a rental. I would rather buy one for $100-130 and sell it on craigslist when I'm done.

Anyone got any good ideas?

 

bought my adapter from the cummins truck sale for 50 bucks, works great and fits jacks with the removable plate

I found the same floor jack adapter you suggested at a place here in Denver called Tool King. However, that thing sits so high I don't know how you could possibly use it to slide a tranny under the truck. At its lowest height, it put the top of the bellhousing on the 5sp at 28" My stock truck sits with the frame rails at 18" That means I have to lift the truck at least 10" which is quite a bit and will make for an uncomfortable work height.

No worries though, I spent the evening welding up my own floor jack adapter out of scrap steel I had in the garage and now the top of the bellhousing sits at 23" - 5" lower and I save 50 bucks - Bonus.

A few weeks ago i was in the same boat. I needed to drop my tranny but i didn't want to spend $80-$100+ for a jack i'd only use once in a blue moon. I ended up buying a motorcycle/ATV jack from Checkers for $40 like this...

It got the job done for half the cost.
