ok so ive broken like 3 work lights in the past 6 months and im fed up. ive got a retractable cord that had my good light mounted on and i dropped it today and it shattered. whats a good solid work light that is bright that i can replace it with?

 

i like the ruggedized LED's...mine is in my trailer (at my parents) so I can't get a pic of it but it is similar to this one from home depot

I pretty much use the clamp on reflector lights with the screw in blubs .

But I have found by far if I really need to see something i use the LED head lamps it never gets tangled up It never burns you and never shines in your eyes.

Now I use this pretty much at work in the hours of darkness so maybe 2 or 3 hours a day and a good 15 to 20 hours on the week end.

I might put in a fresh set of batteries every 2 or 3 weeks.

 

ive used alot of good lights, maglite has a little led thats good, also they sell these sweet led lights with magnets in the base so you can stick em to a hood or whatever. you can find em at tractor supply for like.. 15$? but lately ive been using my gun light. has 4 setting of brightness, never breaks lol. id recommend getting one, the same company makes work lights. Powertac is the name of the company. very high quality. butttt lets just say you get what you pay for lol.

 

I'm a heavy duty mechanic. Gone thru so many worklights I lost count! Spend $100 on the bluepoint magnetic LED one from your local Snap-on dealer! I forgot mine under a fuel trailer, it got returned by a trucker that said it stayed stuck to the frame upside down for two weeks while he drove!

 

i have a reg drop light on a retractable reel that hangs from the ceiling of my shop , out of the way but right there if i need it . craftsman i think . 30 ft reel , no need to find outlets .

 

That's the one I have, amazing light! Also I believe they have a 1 year warranty

 

I bought a Monster hood light a couple months back for around $130. That is by far one of the best tool investments I've ever made. Fastens to the hood with rubberized arms and has a super Long cord. I couldn't have gotten my truck back together without it!!

 

The water proof shock proof flrouscent one in my truck toolbox my grandad had it 10 years and now I got it. I shoulda broke it 5 times by now its called a safTElite stubby

 

I have to say the fluorescent ones like are great. I dont know the brand of mine, it was cheap like $15 or $20. I have had it for about 7 years and I have put it through hell. I have even run it over and it still works perfectly. I drop it all the time, bang it into things etc. A big bonus is it doesnt get hot like halogen. It is bright too and fits into tight spots. The durability is the key selling point though.

It comes down to just what you need to see.

I refuse to use the regular incandescent bulbs because they get so hot. I always used to burn myself

I like the covered fluorescent ones if I am welding the cover keeps the sparks away from the blub.

I have two I have used for a good many years .

For checking fluids and those what now emergencies the headlamps can`t be beat.

The locals no longer even notice me wearing it in the bank or the diner

 

I guess I'm getting old, but the flourescents just dont cut it for me anymore... too dim. i've been using a handheld (mouth-held) LED flashlight lately, but what I really want is a little piece of the sun to hang under the hood! What is the BRIGHTEST lite anyone has found??

 

A h.I.d. headlight jerry rigged into a work light prolly the most dangerous too

 

something ive noticed while working is that something that gives off too bright of a light can actually be annoying. it reflects too much. something that gives a moderately bright light over a big area is more ideal. for me atleast.
