Replacement, pro forged, moog, AC delco, move tech, beck arnley.... These are the brands of oe parts offered online with wide range of prices...

Is there a superior brand here?
Should I stay away from certain brands?

Replacement idler arm is priced at 20 dollars compared to other brands that range in prices from 60 to 120.... Have I found a good deal or is there something wrong with the brand replacement?

Please help.

 

In my experience, there IS a difference in quality between brands. Whether or not it matters, depends on the type of part, and it's function. For example, most ignition rotors are about the same, and the price difference isn't great. Suspension components, on the other hand, are a different story. Some of the cheap ones don't even have a zirk fitting for lubrication. I would buy Moog, if i had a choice. Definitely stay away from cheap Chinese parts; Autozone is cheaper than Napa, but the original equipment Aisin and Koyo parts for Toyotas are the best, and only available at Napa or the Toyota dealer (besides Marlin Crawler and other quality suppliers). Think of it this way: if the OEM part lasted almost 300k miles, why buy a cheap Chinese replacement, that may not even last a year! Go for the quality (OEM), or high-performance (usually better, but pricey), and you will never be disappointed!!

Best parts store replacement idler is the FA5040 idler arm. Then get SDORI brass bushings and brace/truss for it if you want to beef it up more.

 

I don't go off road,but the winters in Anchorage turns the streets pretty lumpy with "land mines" deep pot holes everywhere.I think I'll take your advice and go with the beefier brass bushings.Thanks
