cold air intakes

hi I have a 1993 4runner v6 3L and I have been shopping around for some cold air intake systems and I was wondering if they make that big of a difference or if it's not worth the money and if they're worth it should I go for a k&n or what?!

cold air intake

A snorkel does give you cold air intake and raises the air intake level further above the dirt and water. I drive a 84 diesel with a turbo and plan to add a snorkel kit,(the only way to legally get cold air intake in Ca.), pulling 32-33 mpg now, I'll update this after I get my snorkel.

"Don't waste your money on an intake for the 3.0L" was best piece of advice I could have gotten as an ambitious 18 year old from a guy at a local 4x4 shop (that actually had a K&N cold air intake on his 3.0L pickup) when I first got my truck. In the 11 years since, I've never encountered anyone that was happy spending $200 for a cold air intake on a 3.0L.

Search for ISR (Intake Silencer Removal) on here; I paid an exhaust shop $20 to bend some 3" pipe to fit between the MAF and the throttle body (and miss the brake master cylinder). It helped a bit with the throttle response, it seemed quicker to rev up, but didn't seem to do much for overall power on the 3.0L.

Opening up the exhaust with a 50 series Flowmaster and 2.5" tail pipe, even with the stock cat, actually had a noticeable difference climbing hills on the highway (until I moved up to 33's).

The CAI improved my mileage and acceleration after I replaced my air filter to a spectre. DO NOT buy the cheap $50 kit from Amazon. I bought one that said it fit my truck (it didnt) and it ended up resting on a pulley before I modified it.
