[WY] Wind River Mountains
A couple of pics from a solo run today - I went scouting out some trails and conditions for future rides. Lots of sun, rocks and bugs. Gotta say it was a good day...

Hey, looky there! That looks pretty darn nice and looks like it should fit the bill. Is that going to make the cut?
Is it possible to see Gannett from anywhere on the east side? Are there any roads around it, by chance?
5.5 more days! :bounce2:

Yup, you'll be seeing more of that area soon! I actually tried to post some vague pics as a sort of teaser before you get here. It's not the San Juans (but where else is?), but I'm sure you'll be able to appreciate it.
The 3rd from the last shot, (looks like a giant stack of rocks), is actually a great campsite I found right at the base of the best overlook I've seen in this area. Crazy 360 degree views! I hadn't ventured up that side trail before, but it could quickly become a favorite for the views and twisted-up trail to get there.
The pic of the trail where I'm pulled over in a rock filled chute, was brutally slow with rocks and may have done permanent damage to my kidneys. It is known locally as the hardest trail in the area and the payoff (view from the top) is marginal. Reaching the top is primarily about bragging rights. Not sure how that one would treat your alignment with a lot of road miles ahead of you, but of course I'd do it again if you want to try it!
Re: Gannett Peak - In addition to being the highest peak in WY, it is also one of the most inaccessible. The closest you can drive to it still leaves a 15 mile/20 hour hike. It is not visible from the surrounding wilderness due to other peaks that block its view. You have to pay some serious dues just to get far back enough to even see it. I suppose one could always rent a plane and fly over....
Looking forward to this weekend!

Sounds like a neat campsite. Night 1 of 43!
Oh, and you better reserve that rocky trail! Take care of your kidneys the next time around, though. I haven't had any alignment issues due to trail use yet, so I should be golden.I knew Gannett lies in wilderness, but it sounds like I won't get to see it this time around. No problem. Actually, if you book a flight, I'll buy you a beer!
