Thanksgiving offroad in a first gen runner.

I got to take a few guys on a little off road trip in the 89 this afternoon before the food hit the table and I'll tell you that everyone in the rig was impressed b how well we did. Would have gotten farther but two things happened.

1) I found a spot with a massive collection of real slippery roots and a pretty good incline that I couldn't get over or around due to the tires being a little less than ideal in that situation. The damn roots were placed the same distance apart as the wheel base on the runner so I couldn't even try to jump up one to make the second one. We were bouncing all over the place and ricocheting off of trees with the MC front.

2) All the passengers ran out of beer right as we got to the roots (no I was not drinking at the time).

I did however get told by one of the guys in the rig that we'd try it again later on and he'd bring his CJ with it's 3" Black Diamond lift, 35's and rear OX locker. Yeah I'll be dropping the air in the TreadWrights down to about 10lbs when we make that little run and see if I can't follow that Jeep the entire way.

Good times.

Its fun impressing the Jeep guys with a Yota. I have been out a couple of times with a XJ club..

Kinda fun but at a disadvantage on spare parts if something goes wrong on the trail

That's why I didn't push it to hard. I didn't plan on wheeling so I didn't have my goody bag of spare parts with me. I've wheeled with Jeep groups in the past and always had a good time and only once met a person that looked down her nose at my rig. Of course she had a 35K Rubicon with another 15K in upgrades that her husband bought and paid for. No worries.

Lots of folks seem to like the idea of a 20+ year old rig that gets the job done.

Seeing this was a thread by Junkers88, I came in here looking for pictures and a good story.

You're 1/2 way to my expectations...

Sorry partner didn't have a camera at the time. Besides all you would have seen was my little 89 hung up and turning tires.

edit: Tell you what, I just got my MV50 compressor in this week. I'll make a run tomorrow to a hellish trail here in the hills... air down and make a run at it and take some pics. Just don't laugh if I post up pics of a rolled runner.

There is a trail I've wanted to try for almost 3 years. Crazy incline, big rocks, loose gravel...... never seen anyone do it but there is rubber marks on most rocks and a lot of paint here and there. I think it goes up about 90 feet in probably 45 feet of distance. Huge shelf at the top.

We'll see.
