Red Elephant Hill 11/25/2007
This was just run last week by Monica and her crew from Trail Damage but the fresh snow and possibly a wrong turn made things interesting. There are lots of spurs but according to the map and the GPS we were on the right trail. Even still, I think Cmadness was right that there must have been another turn below that we should have taken. It got so narrow that we had to turn back.
The Soft shoulder and the snow made a recipe for me getting stuck when trying to negotiate a small rock ridge in the middle of the road. After trying the Hi-Lift and stacking rocks Cory and I ended up linking three yank straps and he pulled me out from the top of the hill. Like normal I got so focused on solving the problem that I forgot to take photos. Bummer! It was really fun trying out different ideas. I'm convinced after this run that the gas tank skid should be one of the first mods for the 3rd gens. I scraped it three times and this section of the trail is probably only rated a 4 - 5 in it's current condition.
On the way up
Here's a section of the trail that is a little off camber, with a soft shoulder, snow, and a twelve foot mining pit below. There were a couple of spots that slid sideways to the pit. Unerving!
The trail was tight. It got a lot tighter.
Cory making the slippery snow look deceptively easy.
There was about the same amount of room on the other side
