Planning ahead
I'd originally posted this in the Trip Planning section, but I wasn't aware that it was a system designed to organize groups on given days, not for gathering suggestions and open discussion, so I thought I'd move the discussion here. Hopefully this is the right place.
As my truck slowly moves toward becoming shipshape, I can't help but make plans for what I'd like to do with it.
What I have is a little '83 4x4 shortbed, not a hardcore wheeler in any way, just a general exploring and adventuring rig.
What I'd like to do is take a couple of weeks to poke around the Sierra Nevada mountains and northern California and southern Oregon and explore the old wagon routes, look for old town sites and mines. I'm a major history buff, and I'd love to be able to track down some bits of the past.
Does anyone have any suggestions of trails or historical places in the area to explore?
It'll be about two years from now before I can go for this trip, so i have plenty of time to plan and prepare.
Additionally, I'm looking for both great offroad trails and campsites as well as good trailheads for hikes and backpacking.
