Moab Lions Back Carnage - 2004 Taco

Hey all,

Troy (tc) and I just returned from Moab where we met several other TTORA peeps for a weekend of wheeling. We did Poison Spider Friday night, then Hells Revenge and capped it off with a run up Lions Back Saturday Afternoon. Unfortunatly one of our crew had a problem on the way off of lions back and slipped/turned too soon/ not sure what happened... but at any rate drove off of lions back, caught air and fell 40 feet straight into the ground. Both passengers were fine - which is unreal considering what happened!

I don't have any nore details (no I have no idea if insurance will cover it so don't ask) But... I saw it happen and was part of the recovery with the rest of our crew.

And here is the video of the rest of our trip... You'll notice me standing in my 'infamous' hot tub!!!

Glad they are okay.

Are they parting the truck?

If so, interested in the rear locker and potentially the center console.

holy crap! I'm glad / impressed that they walked away unscathed. Objects can always be replaced but lives can not. Good to hear they're both in good spirit. Looks like the vehicle is going to be parted at AJ's shop and no insurance.

Regardless they're both alive and kicking Did anyone get any video footage of the accident? (had to ask)

Wow i'm glad everyone came out ok, I couldn't imagine losing my truck like that, but at least there was no loss of life. Whats the reason insurance isn't covering, or was there no insurance.

Looks like her, I recognize her trademark, the holy knees.

Glad they are OK.

If that was her, here are some nice pics of her rig.

Again, so glad they are okay. Crazy.

Thanks Molly.

One other thing that i thought of: insurance probably won't cover that, will it? I hope they do, cuz otherwise that is a ton of money to eat. Dang.

Yeah that is Nicole... she used to be on Yotatech but hasn't been much recently. Nic and I are good friends and I am amazed she was unscathed. At any rate Insurance will not cover that....

No Video. I was riding down behind them in another rig and I wathed it happen. We still are not clear as to what happened. Troy (tc) was on the ground and he saw it happen from that angle. He took the picture of the truck as it came off of the lip. There is another picture we are waiting for from another guy who was down there where you see the truck air born (from the side) but he has not sent it to me yet...

I call BS on "noone knows what happened", there were two people in the truck and a bunch of people around, Mike won't say what happened (IIRC from the thread on TTORA, he was driving) and everyone is very tight lipped about it. Give us some clues here. You don't just get bored and drive off the side of Lion's Back for fun. Why doesn't anyone want to say what the reason was? Also, 45 ft seems a bit excessive, in that video you posted it looks more like 25' at the point above the truck. Glad to hear noone was hurt though.

What's the deal with chicks driving off of Lion's Back?? The blazer mentioned earlier was chick and now this one. It does seem odd to lose it at the end like that. details more details. Glad they were ok though, that had to be a scary ride.

It does not look like she was doing the driving according to above.

Hope she can build up another rig, at least she has the skills to do so.

I must say though, you would never catch me going up or down that.
I am not that much of a thrill seeker, not even in my youth would I do that.

glad they are OK, That is a bummer about loosing a truck that nice. Why wouldn't insurance cover it? Falling of a rock seems alot like falling of a bridge?

insurance usually doesn't cover off road accidents. They figure you are purposefully engaging in risky behavior, and thus, are assuming all risks involved in said behavior.

Kind of like how insurance doesn't cover if you are caught street racing.
