Flagstaff 12/14
Went up to flagstaff yesterday to play in the snow...Ended up driving around near the San Francisco peaks and doing a little bit of wheeling..Followed one trail out into the forest a couple miles which lead us to a lava tube cave which was pretty cool...It was a good day trip, ended up driving nearly 450 miles in one day though..This was the first time I've taken the yota up into the mountains..What a work out! This thing needs an LS1...Had it rapped out constantly in 3rd gear at 4500 rpms+ to get up the mountains. Needless to say it still did it, and made it just fine but it was a a workout for sure. I was also very impressed with it in the snow/ice, it handled the cold weather very well.

What are you doing in my hood without dropping me a line???
Unfortunately the USFS has closed almost all of the roads around here as of today (12-15-08) because of the large amounts of snow we have had (and are suppossed to get!) so it will be a while before we can 4-wheel around here again. Reason being the damage caused by lots of vehicle traffic on the soggy roads cannot be fixed (ie graded or bladed) due to budget cuts over the last decade...
Between Flag & Valle (near Grand Canyon) there are still plenty of open roads though. A great 4-wheeeling road is the 522 road off the peaks, as well as the stuff around Beaver Creek on the Redrocks Ranger District.
The Lava tubes are great, and that road (FR245) can be a sloppy mo-fo...
