Castle Gardens and Beaver Rim

Took a Sunday drive out to Castle Gardens, which is a small oasis of rocks of unique shapes and colors with several petroglyphs, that sit near the geographical center of Wyoming. I took a short hike around to see these symbols and learn something about some western history. Sadly the petroglyphs have been fenced off to preserve them from vandals. What a world....

From Castle Gardens, I travelled south towards Jeffrey City, and picked up an old two track called Beaver Rim road. This trail skirts the top of the rim at an elevation of 7500' and overlooks the Wind River Basin. The higher points were dry and easily passable but lower spots in the trail were covered in crusty, drifted snow and mud. Many small herds of wild horses were visible from atop the rim with the help of binocs. Unfortunately, the camera battery was petering out early in the day and so only a few pics to share, but all in all, it was a good day -
