Box Canyon and Cove Ovens - Feb 27, 2005

Due to the fact that Fabian spent most of the entire time shooting footage, we were unable to take the number of picture as we had hoped for so here it a teaser. However, I do recall seeing a lot digi cams out there so I hope you all contribute to what turned out to be a fantastic run.

The highlight of the day was when a 2wd locked Prerunner Tacoma showed up in an attempt to take the same trails. Boy where we surprised when he managed to complete the entire run with only one tug.

Here is the only tug the Prerunner needed.

Chirping wheels, flying rocks, and tipped over ice chest but he made it up with only a rear locker.

Looks nice

Hard to tell but not so nice as second tug of the day was needed when I high-centered.

Steve's young'ns also having fun in the mud

Overview

With the help of great spotters, we all made it back home in one piece.

I had tons of fun and enoyed every second of it and sure look forward to a next run in the near future. I also learned just how much easier and farther you can get with just a rear locker, in addition to 4wd.

Peace,
Geezus

Fantastic trip! That was my first visit to that part of AZ and WOW! It was great meeting everybody. Thanks to everyone for a great time. Steve, good job spotting, and the guy in the silver 3rd gen (Forgive I'm bad w/ names) for hanging back and making sure the group stayed together.

Preliminary Carnage Report:
1. Dented IFS skid plate
2. Rear Bumper Corners a little munched
3. Radio Antenna trashed

It was all in good fun though!

That 2wd Taco did surprisingly well, I was not really paying attention till the end when I was looking at the badging. Good driver skills. That last hill climb made my butt pucker just watching that Taco bounce around. That was a good demonstration of what a locker can do.

I'm excited to see some of the photos.
KING: If I send you a blank tape, is there a possibility I could get a copy of the Footage?
Thanks again

Steve took good care of us.

My truck came out the same as it went it. In other words, no trail carnage.

I would have loved to take footage of my truck going up the last climb. Looked harder than it was after making it up.

Indeed, I can make you a copy. One problem though, since Fabian was recording and narrating, the video came out in Spanish. I don't know if I can mute that.

After the downhill rock steps, not much footage was shot after that. We were pretty exhausted past that point.

More later.

I was a long day, but it was a good day. Great group of people and I look forward to hitting the trails again with everyone real soon. So many trails, we wouldn't want to waste any of them. I didn't take any pics, but I look forward to anyone else's that did.

Amazing trip! I have tons of pics that I will post soon. Thanks to everyone for making my first time on this run a good one. Maybe next time I can get this thing with no pull at all.

I think I have officailly caught the bug... hopefully my wallet can keep up.

Hey Brian, who did you say you got your body lift from? I can't remeber the website or the guy's name. If you could let me know that'd be great!

i_love_tacos..... I want to go back out very soon. I was thinking of running box canyon again in a couple weeks. Don't know if you are interested bu let me know.

Roger Brown. Most people who have a body lift on this board have purchased it from him. Great stuff.

Nice to see others posting some pics as well.

Kyler, I know you had a camera, or your bud did.

Steve had a camera as well.

I'll be doing Box Canyon again but not anytime soon, and only Box Canyon. It's a nice easy trail and no reason for a tug. I have to go back there.

Does anyone Have some GPS points for this route, I was going to map out the route on my delorme 3D map program, I have a general Idea where it is on the map, but there are a few spots giving me a little trouble. Also I think the route is right between two of the discs

I have a GPS track and some pics. I'll post them tomorrow. Today I got the TJM bumper back on the 4Runner.

All that's left is the Front Range Crossmember and the Rear Coils.

Custom Made 4.5" Lift Coils, longer shocks, bigger drop bar. Bigger Bump stops.

Not mutch left and it will be trial worthy. Stubbs is building the steering shaft from the FJ stuff this weekend.

If you guys have Pre-Runners you really need to tell me in advance. There are some places that you won't make it.

I can make sure that we go places with bypasses for you.

Box Canyon/ Coke Ovens

Hey I have about fifty pictures of last weekend so I can't really post them all here... maybe I can make a quick site and post them there but it'll have to be after this weekend.

Hey Steve, just wanted to say thanks for gettin my prerunner through the trails without too much carnage. Sorry that you didn't know before hand it was 2WD. Can you suggest any other trails that would be manageable. Also I checked out your site... pretty sweet. Where is your shop in Tempe? I live around Southern and Rural.

I_love_tacos... I am going to be on spring break from asu from the 11th to the 18th. Maybe sometime around then. I ran box canyon with a friend this morning but I dont feel comfortable going to coke ovens without a 4wd and a better understanding of jut how to get there. Trail was a little confusing... i just followed the schaefer's the whole way...
