Black Creek Offroad at River Rock (Pics-O-Plenty)

Spent the weekend at River Rock. What a Blast! Go there if you get a chance.

I learned a few things.

1. IFS is tougher than I thought. So are CV axles.
2. Skid-Plates are good. (thanks Amgraham!)
3. If you've got a new winch bumper on the way, it makes perfect sense to go ahead and scrape your bumperettes, bend your stock bumper and valance, and remove your turn signals on the side of a rocky wall. This saves time later.
4. Stock tie-rods flex more than you would think. They will not, however, go back into shape after being wrapped around your pittman arm.
5. Chicks dig trail damage.
6. A Stock Rubicon with a long-arm lift is very capable.

^^ That is steeper than it looks. The rear tires lifted a few times coming down in the Jeeps. I was the only non-locked vehicle that made it back up, out of the few that tried. It cost me a tie-rod and a baseball sized dent in the passenger corner.

A great weekend was had by all. Good food, friends, and great wheeling!!!

River Rock is in Milledgeville, Georgia. We couldn't have asked for a nicer weekend to go. Highs in the 70's, lows in the 30's. Zero rain.

That's what I like to see! Glad you got out and wheeled. The truck's looking great and, yes, chicks do dig body damage . Also, I to have bowed my tierods and adjusters before. I'm sketching out some ideas on how to reinforce that whole deal since I'm stubborn and don't want to SAS. I'll let you know if I come up with anything on that.

Yeah, the tie-rods really need some strengthening. In the VW world, we would 'sleeve' them with tubing for a little extra support, but as close as the driver side is to the pittman arm, I'm not sure what I can do.

I need to replace both, and would appreciate any ideas to make them stronger while I'm under there.

I've got lots to do before thinking about SAS. My bumper should be here soon, then the winch, and after that lockers, at least in the rear.

I love my 4-Runner!

The latter is why you should think about the former sooner and more often.

If I lived a little closer to this place, or any place with rocks, I would already be cutting the IFS out. But, in Florida, bumpers, a winch, and lockers are the priority. Most of our trails are a swampy mess.

I can't believe the IFS held up as good as it did. I slammed the front end into many rocks pretty hard, and had the whole front up a few feet a couple times, coming down under power. I hit the side of that hill-climb wall hard enough to bruise mine and my passengers shoulders from the seatbelts. Twice.

I envy you guys that live in the hills.

I haven't made it to River Rock over the past few years. I don't know why, because I'm living about 10 minutes up the road. Last time I went, there was alot more mud than rocks. I guess that's because of our long dry spell here recently. I used to run my 94 pickup out there, but just haven't had anything capable enough lately. Hope to be making the next one!

Can't wait to go back. Loved that place. I can't believe none of us got pictures of the REAL trails and obstacles.
