2007 Mud Bog & Rock Crawling Event held in AL
Went to a Mud Bog & Rock Crawling Event this past Sunday afternoon with a group of friends. The event was held by: www.southernsupercross.com in Cleveland, AL.
For those of you that have never heard of Cleveland or do not know it?s location, it?s a small town located right between Birmingham & Huntsville. (90 mins North of B?ham, 90 mins South of Huntsville.) I?m sure after you see the pictures, you?ll think this is all we do here in Alabama?but it?s not. This event was an ?eye opener? to say the least. However, it was a lot of fun.
Left my dig camera at home, so all I had was the cell. Hope you like.
First was the Mud Bog:
Here you can see a Chevy on 44? tires attempting the mud bog:
Unfortunately, he didn?t make it and had to winch out. Here he is waiting on the tractor to get close enough so he can winch out. He was within 25ft of making it out:
Here?s a Jeep who tried and fell short too. Waiting to get pulled out:
A Blazer attempting the run:
He didn?t make it either. Looks like he?s got more problems though:
How about this ? an H1 Hummer sitting on 53? tires attempts the mud bog:
He finished within 10ft, but still had to be pulled out. Rumor has it, he made it through last year:
Next was the rock crawling half of the event. This is more a less a rock race than anything else. The course is set up so only driver races at a time and it?s a timed event. Basically, the driver with the fastest lap time wins. Each driver is given multiple tries at beating his previous time.
Adam (don?t know his last name) of Springville, AL won the event with his tube Toyota rock buggy he built himself. The 3.4L engine came out of a Tacoma and has it hooked up to nitrous. No one came close to his time:
A couple other shots of the competition:
After the rock racing, we moved onto a ?tug of war? competition. Any vehicle could enter this event. I didn?t see all of the vehicles tug it out, but here?s a shot of a rock crawling jeep taking on a Dodge. The jeep won the challenge b/c the dodge broke a driveshaft:
The jeep went on to pull against a ?02 Ford F250 diesel. Needless to say, the jeep did not have a chance. It was like taking candy from a baby:
This same rock buggy that just lost the tug of war, wanted to give the mud bog a go. The driver opted out and allowed a friend to drive his rig through the mud. The new driver even managed to find a young teenage girl to ride shotgun with him. He made it just as far as the H1 Hummer, but still had to be pulled out. Look at the poor teenage girl in the passenger seat?she is COVERED in mud:
All in all, it was a fun afternoon. Crazy to see what some people will subject the vehicles to.
